When you have a difficult journey ahead, or you are facing sickness, or you need help, you’re going to need some really old magic.
Ancient magic.
You’re going to conjure up your ancestors using a motanka.
The doll is a magic talisman with its roots deep in the past.
The Motanka is so old your ancestors used it to conjure up their ancestors.
Motanka are crafted in a very particular way.
The word comes from the Ukrainian word motaty - to roll or wind.
We often dress it with cloths such as hemp and linen, but the doll is never peirced with a needle or tied with knots.
We secure everything by wrapping, and the Motanka is always crafted in a space of prayer, with absolute mindfulness over the thoughts we engage in whilst creating the doll.
We never give it a face; it is a temporary home for a spirit or ancestors to freely use.
The doll is filled with sweet herbs and resins, and prayers and blessings are uttered over it and sewn into the aprons for luck and healing.
They can be used as protection, or crafted for someone who is sick to carry them through the sickness - and can be burned once the person is well.
Or they can be placed on an altar to house spirits to aid you in times of need, given offerings and treasured as one would a precious family member.
They can be cuddled for comfort and you can ask for healing when you need it.
They are a powerful poppet that links the golden thread of eternity through the cycles of life, death and rebirth.
These handcrafted ceramic offering platforms are designed to go on your altar, be used as an altar, or placed in the garden to act as a fairy stone for offerings.
They act as a ‘spirit house’ and magical objects can be placed inside to fascinate spirits you may want to nourish.
They have space for incense and offerings, and can be used for creating a dedicated space to honour your ancestors, the holy divine, your spirit guides, and recently passed loved ones.
Each one is lovingly handmade in my studio in the forest.
Runes are an ancient tool for divination.
They can offer you insight into the way forward and action required.
They are based on an ancient alphabet called Elder Futhark and were largely found in Scandinavia.
The runes I have for sale are either hand foraged and crafted by me in my studio, or they are crystal runes.
