Mila Baba Yaga

The art I make is like a raft that I row through dark waters at night.

It’s a solid little boat that takes me safely to shore.

It’s a means of making sense of my experiences and making a thread of connection between myself and the person who enjoys it.

Whenever I create something, I first have to see it in my creative mind.

Sometimes this is revealed to me on the early morning pre-dawn consciousness, other times I see it unfolding in my minds eye as I begin to make a thing.

Everything that asks to be created is a being, a being-ness.

A thought form made manifest, to bring magic and healing and connection.

The dolls are a method of drawing on my ancient Slavic witchcraft lineage to bring healing and love.

The tattoos are a way to help people come back into their bodies and feel calm.

The painting is my heart cracked open onto the paper.

To carve a mirror is to leave a message for someone to read every time they gaze upon themselves.
